I am the fly is one of my all time greats (it was the first time I'd heard 'musicians' who actually sounded like people I knew)
12xu is one of the greatest closers of all time.
Chairs missing is classic.
Funnily enough I've never checked 154 though.

I consider it their best record (of the first three essentials), I'll maybe try and get something up in the next week or
something. In the meanwhile check it out!

One of the pioneers who till this day make everybody else seem completely bloody useless.
I’d still take Billie Holiday as all time greatest but Nina is right up there.
Unbridled soul.

Yes, Nina is my number one vocalist ever. Billie is a great pick too.
And we shouldn't forget The Lady With The Velvet Voice Ella Fitzgerald. They rock our world.

Nina released this and 'Pastel Blues' in the same year... like, how? Enjoying the latter very much as well, feels like it could be a grower too, perhaps more to unpack?

Yeah it's incredible. Her live albums are totally worth it too. Her biggest dream as a teenager was to perform works by Bach at Carnegie Hall, but she wasn't allowed because she was black.
So she decided to write jazz songs (considered appropriate for black people) which incorporated extensive Bach-like counterpoint in her piano playing. Amazing woman.

It's just that we meet in The Important Threads on many occasions. This lady is one of my heroes for sure. I mean, who plays like that? Incredible.
