I believe 'stepson' is the worst song they've written. I actually like moons as a closer.
Wuuuuuuuuuuut. It's soo gooood.
|
| |
the WORST song they've written? That's stretching it pretty far. ain't nothing wrong with it as far as I can see.

Well written, but I've never heard anything by Foals before, and after reading this, have absolutely no idea what kind of music this is at all.

Very fair point, Saris. I'm going to have to watch out for that in the future - I like for people to get the gist of the music from my reviews. I've always been wary of description-based reviews, but I can definitely integrate that better next time. =] thanks for your comment.

Has anybody seen them live recently? How are the new songs translating to the stage?
I will be seeing them tonight in Cologne, so stocked, hope the have a good setlist.

Well... i've only heard two of their singles on youtube, and i gotta say that their sound is good and unique. Just I find their chord progressions and rhythms pretty average and predictable.

Singles do not their chord progressions and rhythms justice, because they are usually their simple songs.

Logically refining the style which made predecessor 'Total Life Forever' an album of 2010 contender, English indie-rockers Foals continue to mature on 3rd LP 'Holy Fire'. From the surprisingly effective aggression of 'Inhaler' to the catchiness of 'My Number', this may be the quintet's most diverse - yet cohesive - set of songs. Occasionally funky, regularly poppy, often tense & almost always satisfyingly rhythmic, 'Holy Fire' is meticulously crafted & expansive in scope. So while it doesn't top 'TLF' (not everything works & it's rather front-loaded), it comes mighty close. Recommended Tracks: Inhaler, My Number, Bad Habit & Late Night.

when I first heard "Inhaler", I was kind of afraid they turned into some weird harder rock band...but I bought the album anyways and after spinning it a few times, I have to say I enjoy it. It didn't hit me like when I first heard 'Total Life Forever' but like the review says, it's pretty damn good and I can't get "My Number" out of my head.

My Number is so freaking catchy. I'm loving this album. Still doesn't top Total Life Forever, but it still rules.

When I saw them live they almost exclusively played Holy Fire and Antitodes. (only spanish sahara and blue blood) Hope that does not mean they think that they want to get far away from the style of TLF, which is by faaaaaar the best.
