This album won't get out of that awkward zone between a 3.5 and 4. They do some really amazing stuff on this record, but just like the vast majority of other black metal/doom metal/whatever-the-fuck metal there are so many passages where I seriously don't give a fuck about what they are doing. The worst thing a metal band can do is meander and it feels like so many bands just get way too comfortable with the process that they forget to trim the fat.
