If they could keep their style on Short Songs, but with normal length songs, that would be the best they could be.

I am still not saying this is bad by any means. I just think they could be capable of something a little different the next time around. I don't want them to drop the sound they have, just a little evolution would be cool. Mix it up, but still keep a lot of the good stuff. A lot of bands are capable of doing this and I think these guys could pull it off. Hell, they have already done it once. Shipwreck and Waterfront are my favorites by them and I think they are both very different albums.

It's all good though. I am just glad they haven't broken up or gone on hiatus like a lot of other bands I listen to seem to be doing.

I can respect your opinion, but some of your statements I find to be quite the contrary to their recent history. Example, Short Songs showed quite a bit of progression for the band and displayed that Shane can hold down aggression just fine. He's no Josh Scogin, but that definitely wouldn't fit their style either.

They could have made a whole album similar to the style and maturity of In a Place of Solace. But how well did Short Songs do when they did try? Financially, not very successful.

Great review, though I disagree.

You're a great writer, so a pos is in order, but I disagree with you on most points you raise in this review.

One thing I particularly dislike is that you mostly base your criticism on the fact that Silverstein haven't progressed all that much. While that is more or less true, I think it's as a tad unreasonable to say that because the same band has made similar records before, it automatically loses its value. I really think each album should be rated in a more individual way. However, I definitely agree with you regarding the intros, as that's something that bothered me too. :P

I stopped reading after you're a great writer lol

Just kidding, I know that bands don't need to progress immensely from record to record. I just was never a huge fan of their sound to begin with, and now that I've heard it a few times on different records it's growing old

I like Shipwrecks and Discover the most. They are the more "unique" and better albums to me, the rest (haven't heard short songs either) are on the meh to decent side though.

You aren't missing out on much with Rescue, I thought it was pretty much a complete retread of Shipwrecks except for a few key songs that stood out.

Is smile in your sleep on Discovering the waterfront? because that's the first song I ever heard by them and it set forth my vendetta to write scathing reviews about subsequent silverstein records lol. But seriously though, that song just irks me and since it was the first silverstein track i heard it started me off on the wrong foot i think.

Yeah. Really, tho? I love that song. That tapped guitar line in the verses is so awesome, as well as the lead riff in the 2nd part of the chorus. What don't you like about it?

Atrink it honestly sounds like you wrote the band off a long time ago lol. U should give them more of a chance.
