doolittle was released by a major label and had 3 charting singles before nirvana was even relevant to anyone outside their home state

you can argue that kurt elevated them even higher with his massive platform, but to say he made them big kinda takes away from what they accomplished on their own

Are you talking about the Alt Charts where they never even hit Number 1? The chart that the Hoodoo Gurus topped for 3 weeks? Holy shit, keep proving my point.

Yeah, and it's not much of an argument considering it's just simple logic that when a massive star like Cobain namedrops your band you're going to gain a huge amount of attention and a lot of fans. The only thing that netted them more fans than the namedrop was Fight Club.

Hell, The Breeders were bigger than the Pixies. Last Splash went platinum. The problem is you can't imagine The Pixies before Cobain or Fight Club, they were a footnote (and still are, to be honest).

guitarded_chuck, the problem here is just a knowledge gap. You don't know what you're talking about and so you flounder with flippant comments rather than provide any serious evidence for your argument and that's alright, you're out of your depth, I understand and even I admit I've been there on certain topics (though rarely, I do my research). Of course, you'll jump on anyone's side who happens to bring up some facts since you can't find them yourself, though I've thoroughly debunked those as well. The alt charts are a joke and The Pixies couldn't even get number 1 on those charts but you probably thought when Lexi said charting tracks she meant Billboards Top 100 and I don't blame you, again you're ignorant of the metrics used to judge if a band was "big" or "successful". At the end of the day, I'm right, and I've given supporting evidence but I know I'm dealing with a person here who is obstinate so keep on thinking The Pixies were "big".

Yeah don't tell me that ain't trolling, phero.

Not that I really disagree, but I don't see chuck coming back like, 'oh I see what you mean, yeah now you're right, point taken'.

You can call it trolling, but I legitimately maintain that without Cobain's specific namedrop in regards to Smells Like Teen Spirit along with the use of Where Is My Mind in Fight Club they'd be about as known as Husker Du. I don't think that's a very controversial statement and I haven't seen any compelling evidence to the contrary.

What I do think is a controversial statement is saying The Pixies were "big" before Cobain and Fight Club. Nah, they weren't, they were niche college rock with a small fanbase that couldn't even top the alt charts. U2 chose them for the Zoo TV Tour (after asking several other acts) because they were trying to tap into the zeitgeist that Nirvana ushered in and nobody knew who the hell they were at that time on that tour. This is the last thing I'll say about this topic for now. I will go back to trashing Talk Talk or something.
