4 inches is average FYI.

Then again, much like Black Francis, there is probably a few inches hidden behind my fatpad. How many reunions have Francis and co. had to do again? He needs to stop spending the money on doughnuts.

"being a bit more known than Husker Du"

More like much more known.

He literally covered the Meat Puppets on that mediocre MTV lp and they are nowhere near as big as The Pixies.

All that proves is it's better to be namedropped as the band you're ripping off than covered.

I am no fan of Nirvana and I wouldn't say they ripped off the Pixies. Nirvana were borrowing from a lot of different sources. The influence of the Pixies on Nirvana is only as prevalent as the influence Pixies got from bands like Violent Femmes, Lou Reed, The Gun Club and The Dream Syndicate.

Well Cobain said he ripped them off for Smells Like Teen Spirit.

What he meant by that was the heavy use of dynamics and noise rock/pop format. (The later belongs to Husker Du) I wouldn't call that ripping off, just influence. The album is full of tracks that homage other bands. Territorial Pissings is almost just Fugazi songwriting with Big Blacks noise guitars.

In On Utero they come really close to the pixies at times, but that is probably due to Steve Albini.

Are you saying they didn't benefit from being namedropped by Cobain?

So big most people who saw them open for U2 didn't know who the fuck they were. Again, you really have a skewed notion of "big".

Depends how boring my job is, but that's also irrelevant because you know you're being revisionist. They weren't big and they benefited greatly from Cobain mentioning their name, as did every band he mentioned because Nirvana was actually big.

Hell, The Breeders were bigger than the Pixies. Last Splash went platinum. The problem is you can't imagine The Pixies before Cobain or Fight Club, they were a footnote (and still are, to be honest).
