I was a young kid when I stumbled upon this, so nostalgia makes me not completely hate it.

I don't get why so many Metal fans bash this album and call it a "Nu-Metal" album? I think that's retarded, yeah it's not as straight ahead warp speed Thrash like Slayer is used to playing but for 1998 this is a kickass Metal album. In 1998 every Metal band was either "Nu-Metal," or "Groove Metal." This album has really cool Hanneman Riffs, dark subject matter, unique production and plenty of guitar solos. To me that does not constitute as being Nu-Metal or Groove Metal. I have the special Blood Red colored vinyl of this and it sounds fantastic. I think a lot of people are too harsh on bands and unfairly judge them especially when it's a band like Slayer who have spent years developing a specific sound and a legion of fans that once they alter their sound even a tiny bit people not only get pissed but they examine every particle to criticize and point at. Come on people, Slayer was one of the few bands who gave us good straight forward "Metal" albums in a time when there weren't as many. Judge it by how it sounds to you at this moment just strictly as a Metal album without any of the negative connotations you unfairly labeled on it before.

It's either Hell Awaits or Reign in Blood. I've been jamming the former more lately.
