the major problem with kid a is that it came out in the early part of the decade, when EVERYONE was going electronic. it felt extremely "me too" like radiohead were trend hopping, but they were going to do it with style! too bad they couldn't make something better than this. so many bands in those days were style hopping and doing it with way more creativity and passion.

dude i like gummo as much as the next person but kid a is just a footnote

let me clarify it a bit then. in the late 90s and early 2000s, tons of rock and metal bands decided to "experiment" by ripping off the electronic music community. if you weren't there when it was happening, it might not seem that big of a deal, but back then, it was. radiohead made their electronic transition in the tale end of this era. because of this, the album felt passe and dated when it came out.
|
| |
for me i would just rather listen to a more engaging electronic album than this, like Ulver's Perdition City
it also has less lemons than this which is goooood

but kid a is just a footnote
well thats an idiotic thing to say because it's had way too much popularity and impact to be "just a footnote"

Recently got the vinyl version of this. Awesome, it is.

Fairly sure Kid A spawned far more experiments with electronic music than anything else did.

what? kid a came at the tail end of that era. all the experiments were already done.
|
| |
this isn't that influential
|

Album Rating: 2.5
i wouldn't point to jane doe in particular as being all that influential, but there's no denying that converge are a very influential band. same with radiohead, it's just that ok computer was their massively influential album, not kid a.

oh no way man, there's no song even remotely as touching as exit music or no surprises on kid a and there's certainly no song even remotely as awesome as paranoid android
