I tried showing one of my friends some of the stuff I listen to and he complained about it being super generic and talentless, and then he linked me to disturbed and five finger death punch as examples of good music

Speaking of the "Death punch" have a look what happened when I called someone out about Five Finger Death Punch being original;

Put a few entry level bands in to throw them a bone.

Apparently I like these BVB now as well.

You're right, but if at the least someone let's my words of wisdom permeate their tough guy skulls, then hey, I've won, right?

also true.

I'm waiting for the influx of stupidity that comes when FFDP fans see the negative review that their new record will get.

You know surprisingly that guy I was talking about is actually really smart otherwise, it's just he has fucking horrible taste in literally all forms of media (his favorite show is The Big Bang Theory) and he thinks he has really elite taste and is a total asshole about it. Like the few times I've talked to him about this stuff I was literally just speechless by how oblivious he is

Damn, I can't get over elitists. Like, I have my moments, but I try not to write off a whole genre, rather hating individual bands for given reasons.

But some elitists just make me want to rip my eyes out

Oh yeah he's really a total douche, I dunno why I called him my friend cause I haven't considered him one for a while now (for that exact reason). I mean elitists are annoying as it is, but if you're going to be one don't try to be one over shitty entry level metal bands or you're just going look like you're 12

My one friend who's into dubstep is actually surprisingly open to like everything I show him. Except for when I tried to show him The Sawtooth Grin, that didn't go over well...

I was in a band with a guy who insisted how thrash his taste was.

He liked the Big Four and fast metalcore bands like Trivium, Killswitch Engage and Chimaira .

I quit the band 6 months in, a week before a performance because I hated the boring riffs and his awful screams.

Elitists are tolerable...as long as they're actually knowledgeable and actually have great taste.

As you said in the review, this is a band for teens. Unless you like Hot Topic post-hardcore bands (Asking Alexandria, Attack Attack!, etc.), you will not like Black Veil Brides. Lead singer Andy Biersack always says he is all about "Be yourself. Don't let anybody tell you different." That's great and all, but when you dress like Kiss wannabees, you're not exactly being yourself.
I guess you could look on the bright side. Their albums have gotten slightly more mature since their first EP "Sex & Hollywood." "We Stitch These Wounds" was all about not cutting yourself. "Set the World On Fire" was mostly "Don't cut yourself. Go fucking nuts and 'set the world on fire' and be a rebel," but their image got even more Kiss wannabee. "Wretched and Divine"...well the message is still crossing "emo-screamo" wannabee metal. They changed their look completely, but it still crosses hair metal and glam rock, and the message is still basically "Don't cut yourself." If you have to tell your fans not to cut themselves in 90% of your songs, maybe you should branch out and do music that isn't specifically for depressed teenagers that think they are rebelling by listening to your music and just do something new, or quit all together. When the commercial for your album debuts on Toonami...do I even have to finish that sentence?

The ever-divisive Black Veil Brides get ambitious with a concept album on their John Feldmann produced 3rd LP 'Wretched And Divine: The Story Of The Wild Ones'. The flamboyant & bombastic quintet surge ever closer to mainstream hard-rock here, with one huge anthemic sing-along after another. The predictable narrative keeps the band focused & naturally adds a symphonic element, even if Wil Francis' 'F.E.A.R Transmission' interludes are very cheesy. It's cliched, 1-2 tracks overlong & not quite 'The Black Parade', but BVB know their target audience & deliver a fun & gratifying release. Recommended Tracks: I Am Bulletproof, New Year's Day, In the End & We Don't Belong.
