I know this is always kind of an awkward question for somebody who has it's origins there, but: how is it?
Always wanted to visit that place and it was one of the places I was considering moving to, weather's sweet, it doesn't seem so weirdly conservative, people don't seem to be all backwards. (had a nice laugh at some Californian judge banning some kind of church therapy for gay youngsters)
Only other thing that needed to be right is job market for academics.

| |
So the feeling I already had as kid proved to be right, heh. It's definitely on my list of places I need to see, if I've done that and stuff I'll definitely consider if it'd be a place worth staying given the right chances in the job market and stuff. (from what I gathered becoming American nowadays can be quite a hassle - where are the good ol' days where you could just overstay your visa without anybody caring lol)
|
| |
Well, that's why I'm talking about the job market. For one, I'm not planning to move out to a possibly expensive place without some money in my backhand. (which I'm gonna need anyway since apparently you'll need a financial statement and shit)
And secondly, I'm aiming to be an academic so if the chances are good or my contacts will have spread until then I'll probably make enough money to live on my own there first and foremost.
Unless in the U.S. properly qualified academics don't get paid shit, which I kinda doubt.

I think I have a mixed accent. When I speak french I have a south eastern english accent but people tell me I have a slight french accent when I speak english.
Couple of things:
1. There is no "German accent".
2. "German accents" are mostly either poor pronounciation (and/or bad grammar) or regional German accents reinforced if people never learned to speak proper German either.
you can say that about any nationality or language though
but rather I dislike the general mentality of their society in the almost the same way as most of us hate the American mentality. most of my close friends are British (lol look at me, playing that card) but generally, yeah, British people can go suck a dick.
explain?

"you can say that about any nationality or language though"
Depends, German is a language with the same roots as English and there are no certain specialities about German as to how we pronounce things, even in that respect there are more similarities than differences between German and English. This is not the case with the languages with a Romanic origin.
But yeah, in general I agree.

I can't distinguish between regional american accents further than "southern" and "not southern"
Even identifying canadian accents is hard, although I can just about manage it

maybe I'm just not listening hard enough. when I watch something based in the US I don't tend to take into account exactly where it's set either

I don't really get the dislike for Truant at all. I probably like Rough Sleeper more but just slightly. Truant is more of a rhythmic beast but it hits just as hard for me, only in a different way.

I don't know, I'd say it's definitely different compared to his old stuff. He's a lot more dynamic with Truant than he has been before.
I'm still at ends with how to view this EP. Burial seems to be going for the same idea with two different paradigms but I can't really nail it down.

'Truant' builds up to a suitable conclusion, but the sum isn't justifiable to all its excessive parts
