I might just have to bump this up to the big 5.0, it's too iconic

Not really. People are more frustrated with the band's treatment of it than anything else.

"Is this really hated tho"

I guess not hated, just controversial/infamous, and something everyone has a strong opinion on - thus iconic

"It just needs less shit production and a new drummer"

'muh AJFA production' is just a meme at this point and without Lars none of these songs would actually be as good as they are. I would rather have a drummer who could hold his own back in the day and also happened to be one of the best songwriters in metal history than some faceless blast beat whore. The drumming on this is fine. The two criticisms you gave are what any old poseur who hadn't even listened to the album would say.

Indeed, they would probably be much better.
This also needs beter production, like, one with a bass.

"'muh AJFA production' is just a meme at this point"

It's a meme for good reason. The production fucking blows and really hurts the album by cutting out one of the most interesting members of the band and blasting the least talented one over everyone else.

"without Lars none of these songs would actually be as good as they are."

LMFAO - Dude, listen to ANY other metal band cover any of these songs, and the drumming shits all over this.

I mean, Lucca's right. Anyone who's heard Doomsday for the Deceiver would know that excluding Newsted to the extent they did was an absurd choice.
