Black Waltz has an almost entirely new sound from the previous releases Kalmah has put forth, from the vocals to the beat and lyrics. The lead singer has gone from the more high-pitched to a low grinding sound similar to the band Insomnium. The sound of the band itself has gone to more of a thrashy sound thus finding Black Waltz to loose some intensity the previous albums had with the Death Metal trend. I still find this album to be good though I was surprised at the changes, but change may be good for Kalmah as they may be exploring their musical talent in other directions. I recommend this album to fans of this band’s incredible overall talent but to those who loved the distinct Death Metal sound of earlier releases may be a bit disappointed with it.
I personally liked it very much, Nice review man.

I downloaded the all-acoustic track and the title track - this is very good stuff. Not sure whether they are that similar to Children Of Bodom.

Hearing that this sounds similar to Children of Bodom I think that I should consider giving this a listen. Good review, too.

They used to sound similar to Bodom...TBW is a step in an entirely new direction. What I love about Kalmah is that they seem to keep getting better over time, whereas CoB is just trying to be more badass. Kalmah has potential, and Antti Kokko is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time.

I'm in love with this album right now. I've heard a little off They Will Return and even though this seems to head in a different direction, it makes me wanna check out some more of their past stuff.

I prefer the old Kalmah more, but this album is still great. I also prefer Kalmahs old vocals, probably because mine sound like them
The acoustic track is awesome, I wish it was longer though.

I love this album.

I prefer the previous vocal style, but his new style is still great. I agree that the acoustic track (title is completely skipping my mind right now) is awesome.

This album is good!
I like The Groan of Wind the most, but i do like their previous work better.
Hades and Swamplord are great tracks by them! I also like their previous style of vocals better as well. But this album is great!

I have heard a lot of people say that this album isn't as good as their older ones, but I disagree. I like the direction they have taken. They seem to be more keyboard-oriented with this album and I love it. It's just as good as the older ones to me. It's just different. The vocals are still great even though they are death metal-esque vocals instead of black metal-esque vocals.
They are definitely moving away from the COB sound. They have never sounded to similar to me, but now sound nothing alike. Kalmah has also always been better, IMO.
Nice review.

I can't really say I like what they've done with the vocals, but it's pretty decent aside from that. I prefer They Will Return. This Message Edited On 01.03.07
