@Wildcard

"Self titled is a weird one for me. I like all the songs individually, but it’s just got such a bleak and despondent vibe across the whole record that makes it just exhausting to listen to. Bloody Cape is fucking badass tho and Battle Axe has that unforgettable intro. It’s a great record for sure but yeah just not really what I listen to the band for."

I kind of get what you mean but that album is like injecting pure 2003 into your veins. It just goes so fucking hard and there's never been anything remotely like it. Deathblow is still like a top 5 track from them.

"I like the melodrama on all their records don’t get me wrong, but the self titled moves beyond melodrama and into “im going to fucking kill myself” territory. If I’m having a terrible day I’ll jam it but I try to steer clear of music that will make me even more depressed lol"

Yeah it's a depressive album, the band was in a lot of turmoil and it shows through the music. It honestly just feels like home.

"I’d say Gore and Diamond Eyes are pretty interchangeable too. It’s interesting, Diamond Eyes was my absolute favorite at one point, and I would’ve had Gore a lot lower closer to release too. I’ve grown to like one a lot more and the other a lot less"

This is a super hot take and I sort of agree with it. But those 2 albums do very different things. DE is like a really smooth reset for the band where they just made a really digestible meat & potatoes album while Gore is like pure deep cuts.

I really think of Diamond Eyes as a soft reboot for the band in more ways than one. Obviously they lost Chi, so that’s number one.

But I really think of their more modern records as kind of a redo or tribute to their earlier records.

Diamond Eyes is Around the Fur. Most songs are pretty simple and to the point, but they deliver some heavy as balls moments with great riffs and catchy choruses.

Koris No Yokan is the White Pony. Still very obviously the same band, but taking more risks with songwriting and more atmospheric tracks.

Gore goes even further in that direction. Might be blasphemous to say but I view Gore and SNW as very similar records sonically. The band tried a lot of new things: some of it worked some of it didn’t. Shit happens.

Idk just a little thought that I often have when im high off my ass listening to Deftones. I guess in this analogy Ohms would have to be the self titled but I don’t really see many similarities there so I’ll just leave it at that.
