You obviously dont know what you are talking about. Deftones really did not develop a big fanbase until White Pony. They had mainly a cult following for the first 2 albums.

Yeah I don't like that whole mainstream thing either. Deftones' production has always been really clean though. It makes them a pretty accessible band.
I'm still looking forward to Chino/Isis in their new band "Palms". That should be some awesome stuff!
