Regarding Demon's wall of text: I think I'm afraid I both agree and disagree.

The jazzier and more electronic tinged albums/songs are indeed stellar, especially the drumming is totally amazing during those phases. However, I think their more straightforward approach here on Bends, on some later tracks, and even on some Pablo Honey tracks (Blow Out ❤️) worked very well too. That rock-oriented approach was a bit more box-standard of course, but they pulled it off nicely.

Right, I decided to put my money where my mouth (fingers?) are and actually listen to this properly for the first time in ages. Very weird experience, it’s simultaneously comfortably familiar and uncomfortably distant - these songs will be embedded in my mind for eternity it would seem, but they’ve morphed into something quite different from those fond memories of my youth. I’ve known this for some time now, I was just taking a moment to appreciate it whilst this was on, which made the whole experience a little surreal.

Musically, this is mostly what I expected. I still love Street Spirit, I enjoy Fake Plastic Trees (marginally less than I thought tbh), High and Dry is good. The rockier tracks aren’t really my bag anymore, with one surprising exception... ‘Just’ is surprisingly enjoyable, I’d much rather hear it 100 times than have to hear Creep ever again. The opening two tracks are trash though and My Iron Lung is a mess.

I’ll give it a nostalgic (but not really that nostalgic/it’s complicated) 3.3/5 thus barely maintaining the status quo, seems fair as it has brought me a lot of joy over the years and there’s a couple of high points bringing up the dross considerably.

tl;dr

I feel this re. Just - that one is surprisingly enduring, really tight songwriting. for the most part it's a v mixed bag, as you say. some all-time Radiohead duds here, but a few classics

Apologies for the essay... now I could do one for OKC, but I’ll try and refrain.

'First two tracks are trash'

Planet Telex is a great opener and the T/T might be their best 'rockin' track tbh.
