That outro to Bloody Cape still gets me, Chino has never sounded so unhinged.

Only thing that comes close for me is his crazy scream on the outro of Royal.

"Yeah those are two of my favorite Deftones songs — Deathblow is just as good as Battle Axe imo."

Totally, those 3 clicked with me instantly

Yeah, the Rats! one is really intense. Reminds me of the scream Billy Corgan lets out before the breakdown of XYU

Fireal also gets pretty intense in chorus and pre chorus but yeah Rats goes the hardest for me.

Now, if Deftones had released When Girls Telephone Boys or Bloody Cape as a single back in 2003 back when I was angsty 14/15 year old, MAYBE it would have changed my whole relationship with this band. It might have inspired me inspired me fully check this album out.

As it stands, they released Minerva and I respectfully said goodnight, staying with ATF & WP (mainly the former). Now it's 2021 and I'm finally giving this the time...and it's not letting me down at all.

More fool me for not keeping up with Deftones for the past 18 years, I've missed out.

I remember hearing Minerva on the NHL 2004 soundtrack and thinking it was amazing. Didn't check anything else from these guys until more than a decade later lol.

I quite like Minerva, it's just not what I wanted/needed back then when I was knee deep in Scandinavian melodeath for the first time!

@clay: that was me with the Diamond Eyes album. I loved it back in 2011-2012, and then I never actually delved into the rest of the band’s discography until 2018. And then I immediately regretted sleeping on them, lol

"needles and pins is the best song on here..."

this is as farthest to the truth as possible

"That outro to Bloody Cape still gets me, Chino has never sounded so unhinged."

Tbf, the whole of Hexagram is basically the most unhinged Chino has ever been.

Battle-axe is also top 5 Deftones song, agree with whoever said it.

Moana surely one of the best Deftones albums closers as well?

Never loved Moana tbh. Or Minerva for that matter. But this is top tier Deftones overall.
