I have a feeling I’ll have the same opinion as clay, there’s a ton of potential in this and I think if the later albums tighten up their songwriting a bit then I will really love those.
Also, I might get crucified for saying this but I think the production/mixing brings this down a bit. There aren’t any dynamics really, it’s all treble and the bass and drums sound really flat to me. I have similar feelings about the few other Steve Albini production jobs I’ve heard, I guess his style just doesn’t appeal to me.

Not to be too hard on this, it is really good and I can’t deny its influence, plenty of stuff I love probably wouldn’t exist without this so I definitely respect it. Heck, it’ll probably keep growing on me knowing how I am.

tbh it's just a matter of getting used to them. If I didn't listen to any bands whose vocals turned me off at first I really wouldn't listen to a lot of music.
I hated these guys the first time I heard them but I now absolutely love this and Doolittle and have for years.
