i mean im pretty sure half the hate these guys get are for not being thrash when theyre always labelled as such.

like if they had been called metalcore from the beginning and never thrash i bet they wouldnt cop half the flak they do. but alas, they always get tagged as thrash and so thrashers check em out, and then they hear queef mxc bull and get pissed.

@tempest i think they are thrash, just with strong metalcore influences. but i agree, the tag is probably why they get so much hate, that and/or the fact that "tr00 metal" is being mixed with metalcore.

Still think I rushed this review. And I might have been too eager to call it a thrash album, but the hate these guys get baffles me.



If I was to re-review this album, I would give it a 3.5 and let everyone know that it wore off fast as I rarely revisit this.

Sylosis only get the hate because they're catchy and melodic and easily likable. Anything that's easily likable get a bone in the ass from elitist hipsters. I agree this album could get boring after a while, but still is beyond par in terms of song writing. While the thrash riffs are not totally stale here they're not remarkably original as you suggest. But the thing is it sounds refreshing compared all the stale old school revivalists coming out. I wouldn't blame them, they just love thrash. Even the thrash titans cannot help but rehash from past if not help themselves to some other influences like kreator flirted with excessive melodies on Phantom Antichrist but rather done in a way that is done to death by melodic death metal bands. If metalcore is a dead end, thrash is already rotting bones six feet under. This is why I realized that bitching about modern metal would never stop no matter how good, that's the only thing that helps some of the hardened old school kids sleep at night it seems.
