It's crazy how this went from being my least favorite Rush album years ago to now being well into my top 10 of their discog. Definitely a grower for sure

I love how Geddy flat-out admitted that the band were completely high off their asses when making this one, lol
That said, this album has some of their best individual moments ever. No One at the Bridge with that Steve Hackett-style solo, that awesome fingerpicking in Panacea, the badass riffs of Bastille Day... and of course that amazing metal riff in The Necromancer, which probably invented prog metal right then and there

i find fountain of lamneth really relaxing, it's paints a better picture for me than their two other side-longs

Relaxing for sure.
But I'll take the other two side longs as the better pictures!

Lamneth is really good, yeah. The only real issue I have with it is that the band didn't quite nail those transitions between parts yet. In fact, I don't think they ever quite got that part down perfectly until the title track of Hemispheres, where everything flowed incredibly well (with all due respect to 2112, which does rule of course)

It’s true, they were coherent in themes, but never with good transitions. Look at supper’s ready for perfect transitions

Yeah all prog that models itself off yes/genesis tends to have that vibe

Hemispheres is really the first "professional" one, seamless
