New 'Verge song sounds like 'Verge & is quite good, however it's nothing mind-blowing. That's two songs for the new record that are both 3.5/5 & both sound typical of the band... hoping there's more to come, honestly. I shouldn't hold their own insane level of consistency against them but my hype level is through the roof & even if I end up with a 'low-4/5' record, I'll probably be disappointed.

I think it helps to judge records according to what they are, not according to what you expect them to be. Instead of expecting something to be mindblowingly awesome, listen a couple of times, and ask yourself - do I enjoy this or not? If you enjoy the record - great! I didn't think AWLWLB was that awesome apart from a couple of songs when I first heard it, but then it rapidly grew.

I don't need advice on how to listen to music, sometimes you just get hyped & expectations will inevitably be high. It's practically impossible to go into the new record with absolutely no sort of expectancy, unless you're a robot or something.
A band I've never heard anything from before? Sure. Converge? No.
