The atmosphere is crushing. The flip side to Elizium. The way Carl McCoy took on this darker industrial metal sound, and still made it his own. Very unique album, and the fact that it’s a one off - somehow maintains its magic. I don’t think there are many albums that can give me such a visceral punch in the gut like this one. And yet, when there are still moments of ethereal calm.

I wonder how another album with this project could have turned out, but at the same time this being the sole record does make it even more precious.

He definitely hit a winning formula. And the deeper you go with the album you really uncover how immaculately produced it is. I know Carl is such a perfectionist in the studio and the subtlety, atmosphere and layers could easily be missed on first listen. I think I’m satisfied with this as a one off. Some elements carried over into Mourning Sun, and especially with the stand alone single in 2016 Prophecy. But Zoon is very much it’s own beast.

Cant get over how insane that bridge for Penetrate is.

If the bridge is the section that starts at 2’14 to 2’40? Then yes that is the real highlight of the song. Take out the blast beats rolling in the background in that section and the vocals and guitar in that section are old school FotN

Easily the most played record when it was released. Now, some tracks amazing, some not. Melt still Shine

Still spin this regularly. All tracks still amazing. How McCoy has blended the Neph sound with metal makes this a unique experience. And even as my knowledge of metal has massively increased in the last decade this still holds its own and doesn’t sound like anything else.
