'The next trend for all music is going to be the computer.'
electronic death metal, electronic hardcore, electronic jazz? Cmon man
electronic music has already ruined pop music (look at the train wrecks Rihanna, Beyonce, J-Lo, etc... have put out in recent history.). Oh and David Guetta is the worst thing that has EVER happened to music

"1st - I don't get the hate at all. Still better than 95% of anything on the radio. "
No.
"2nd - you can never have to much banjo. Never!"
No.

What I've heard from this isn't bad, just more of the same. I don't see why anyone would pay for this if they already have Sigh No More, but it'd probably be #1 on the charts.

I've always had mixed feelings about them. They have some undoubtedly great songs, but they are maddeningly inconsistent (IMO), the vocalist must be listened to in moderation, and they are a tad overrated on this site.

"Hate it because you hate it, fine, but no other reason is valid. Other people's opinion on music should never affect what you think of it."
and this is the indisputable fact that the haters of this band have never and will never get past. seriously you guys are all such fucking hipsters.

When someone calls me a hipster I kind of take that as a compliment. It reassures me that all my efforts to be smug are paying off.

yeah don't get me wrong, I don't have the pins and patches and dark rimmed glasses.
although I love me some pumpkin spiced coffee from starbucks (which is a hipster haven)

Most of the complaints I've seen are valid and related to the fact that they have been rehashing the same formula too much. I didn't originally have much of a problem with them but my opinion of them has been dropping with every new song I hear.

Well they couldn't have been rehashing it too long - this is only their second album!
But I still agree that the banjo is overused...to the point that I could see someone loathing their music.
|
| |
is it wrong that I liked their first one? I don't really get the hate-train..
|
| |
Totally wrong. You should be ashamed of yourself.
|
| |
True it is just their second album, but the whole quiet guitar intro, build up and sudden banjo stomps with pretty much the same rhythm and melody can still get worn out when pretty much every track does it. It feels like they are being too lazy and safe.

I've heard Avett Brothers on CBC radio2 a couple of times, I'll check it out.
I really like the banjo, especially in bands like Elliott Brood and Trampled By Turtles. Neither band uses it the same way, but it's just so good.
