Don't trust my ratings though Sunlight, they are all over the place and I have absolutely no credibility when it comes to rating.

But this I can tell you, the album is a beast.

My ratings don't make sense a lot of the time. Especially my 3.5s, sometimes I really like 3.5s & other times I just slap a 3.5 on a highly acclaimed album that I'm not massively into (that I accept is actually good music). I slap a 4 on too many things as well, thinking about demoting some 4s so I can then demote some 3.5s to 3s.

I agree in theory but for some bizarre reason numbers are important to me. I also feel a sense of responsibility for not messing up the averages with my uninformed opinions, so I chicken out a little with a few of my ratings. However, I do think that although something may not be completely for you it can still be perfectly listenable & appreciated on some level, I should probably just lower the score I give these albums slightly. Again, that's overthinking it though...

I understand that's how things are supposed to be & they sort of are, except when they're not. I don't know. What do you rate an album that you think is well put together/written but isn't really your bag, or maybe you enjoy SOME individual elements. It's confusing. I find it difficult to only take the enjoyment part & not the analytical side. Having said this enjoyment still comes first, my objectivity is at 90% despite only rating around 330 albums, so I must be doing something right. Unless Sputnik's system is broken which could well be the case.

I got Lift Your Skinny Fists 3.5'd cuz its way too goddamn long and needlessly pretentious. Is it probably a 5? Yeah no doubt. Is it a 5 to me? Not a goddamn chance. I don't think Metallica has any album better than a 2.5 and I feel totally justified that opinion too. Dont bother rating something as "great" if you dont think it actually is... just rate it based on what you reaaalllyy its worth and comfort your mind once the deed is done lol

@Piglet - yeah, there's a reason why I try not to think about this stuff anymore, haha. I told my wife not to 'let me' play Fantasy football next year for this very reason (as I mentioned earlier), it's like an addiction.
