Still their best. Pity that there are no better groove metal albums out there.

Well I heard their first 'single' when it came out and was vocally pleasantly surprised seeing as bm is just one giant throatfuck, didn't think Phil could pull it off nowadays

Have they released an album then or sank?

yeah they released their EP. Its only about 16 minutes long and yeah while Phil's pipes sound surprisingly strong its average at best. Its Good to see him still out there in the extreme metal scene though

I don't think they've officially split or even gone on hiatus but Phil is a volatile frontman always running off with side projects and whatnot lol

I'll check it man, even though I'm not that in to bm apart from atmospheric stuff generally

Also don't really want Phil to do too much bm as it will fuck his already knackered voice beyond return and I still need to see down live and dont wanna have to cringe my way through the singing parts bcos they're honestly one of my fave bands ever

tbh its prob not even worth checking if you're not into black metal since its just pure bm. But I highly recommend exploring the genre and its many facets. I used to hate it but today its one of my favorite genres.

Phils voice is already pretty much gone but he was pretty good when I saw him last year, its not like he has to nail cemetery gates or anything

Yeah I mean I don't mind it it's not like I don't know anything about it, I'd even say I prefer the vocal style to most death metal vox but the instrumentals don't generally interest me as much. I like 'epic' atmospheric stuff like Summoning and bands like Dissection (I know they're kinda blackened death or whatev) but yeah I'll start checking out more soon, particularly Emperor cos Ihsahn is one hell of a vocalist

Phil seems to fluctuate very dramatically in his live performances, probs depending on how drunk/high he is

Honestly, I've always loved this album, but vulgar will always be the go-to Pantera album for me. It's Pantera being Pantera at it's absolute finest hour. No filler, no bull shit, just straight for the jugular. What this record does that other Pantera albums don't do for me is the fact that it sounds unlike anything they've ever done previously and it's soaked in morbidity, sorrow, drugs/addiction while still sounding HEAVY as fuck... definitely their heaviest record.
