I actually started to like deathray after I caught myself singing and tapping to it haha.

I will shocked if Z2 tops CoC for AOTY for me, but this stuff is a lot more immediate than that album.

well yeah it's all poppy and stuff. CoC was ridiculously good (idk for sure if it's my aoty, but it's def top 5), so it'll be hard to beat. Devy's insane for putting out three albums in the same year, though. When does he write all this stuff?

Dark Matters isn't as batshit as Decon, but I see where the comparison is coming from. It is definitely channeling the zanier parts of ZTO through the narrative style of Decon.

He did say he will be taking at least a year off after the Ziltoid tour so I guess whatever he has been doing is certainly unsustainable.

Yeah I don't blame him for taking time off. Since the inception of the DTP he's been pretty much a non-stop machine.

I figured disc 2 would be the most disappointing one haha, considering I only thought the original Ziltoid was like a 3.5.

It is definitely balls to the wall, 0% shame fun. Devy may just be the bravest man in the world for committing to such a redunkulous concept.

AND HOLY SHIT, all the references to ZTO on Dark Matters (both musically and lyrically).

I think part of it is the label strong arming him into slowing down because of how ridiculous his output has gotten.

Yeah, definitely hard to market his stuff when it comes out so fast.

Also, did you guys notice that CoC is currently the second highest rated album of 2014 on this site (beating Swans, Flylo and Kayo Dot)?

Yup. It used to be higher, too.

Also: 8 full-lengths in 6 years. Wow. He definitely should just chill a bit after this.

Yeah, I want him revitalized when he starts working on that "gnome on a mountain doom album".

Second album is definitely weird. I forgot this was supposed to be a rock opera.

first disc is good, idk about the second one. It's weird and has a lot of voice-overs and not that much normal singing. It'll definitely require multiple listens since you have to pay attention to the vocals and the story, along with the music. I really wonder how the alt version with just the music and no story ends up sounding.

I dug the first ones concept for how off the walls it was, but it was only alright musically. This any better?

Yeah I was wondering how that's going to sound with all the dialogue.

Dark Matters in its structure is pretty much the love child of ZTO and Decon.

Actually, on first listens, I enjoyed Dark Matters more than Sky Blue. On Sky Blue, "Silent Militia" is the only one I instantly loved.

The dialogue makes it every bit as cluttered as Decon so if you didn't like that about Decon, you won't like it here.
