Anders has generally been the weakest link of the band or at least the most replaceable cog in the proverbial machine. This is the only record where I really felt his presence contributed to elevating the music.

Not to say he was BAD during their classic run, but he was never spectacular.

Technical ability isn't everything. I think replacing anders would likely hurt the band rather than help. Whether or not you like his vocals, it's definitely distinctly him and is a huge part of the band's identity. You could replace the drummer or even a guitarist, though, and probably nobody would notice if you didn't tell them

I like his voice but im not a fan of his vocal melodies in the last couple of albums. Way too much poppy shit that's out of his comfortable range

Agreed. I don't mind his cleans, but a lot of the time in later albums he seems to do this aggressive shout-singing hybrid which is neither harsh, nor clean and just falls flat on both counts.

I mean, van halen kicks ass even though David Lee Roth was technically not a good singer

Listening to this for time in ages. My initial dislike of this album has definitely waned over the years. It's definitely not their best but there's some genuinely enjoyable tracks here.

He's a lot better than Anders in that regard when you consider songs like Push Comes to Shove. Had way more charisma too so that being compared to David doesn't do Anders any favors lol
