and also no one gave a fuck about swans enough to hold a thread together until this popular "resurgence" by the band. if they'd been responsible for influencing the creation of so many genres we would have had more than just one or two monthly posts about people liking the band back when this kind of stuff was more prevalent on a metal sputnik instead of the hipster sputnik it is now.

not every influential band gets the recognition they deserve by casual listeners. it's true this particular album made the band a lot more popular but their influence was always there

agreed! so they're not as influential as the album suggests!

I set the expectation for this way too high. Compared to Soundtrack For The Blind, I don't find this as mind blowing.

listen to it more
OR just let it sit for a while and come back to it
took me about a year for me to like this but it does get exhausting to listen to
can't really even compare this to Soundtracks

Soundtrack just sets me in such a somber mood. The intensity of the emotions there is extremely hard-hitting. But not really the case for this one though.
I'll give this another try honestly.. Or I'll check Swans' other album before coming back to this.

Yeah, this is really rewarding, but also in a much different way than Soundtracks. 93 Ave is probably one of my favorite songs, period.

Which ones have you heard aside from this and Soundtracks, Abe?
If not, pick one of these three as they're far better ways to get into the band.
Children of God
The Great Annihilator
White Light from the Mouth of Infinity

How is that not diverse? That's classical, trap, trip hop, sine waves, folk rock, jazz, blues, idm, and death metal all under his belt. And I'm not even really scratching the surface.

White Light and CoG are both absolutely incredible. Gira posted on facebook recently that he's going to continue reissuing the entire Swans catalog, so I am really looking to Children of God on vinyl
This album affects me in really weird ways that I've never experienced before. It's hard to describe and sounds weird, but if I'm not in the right state of mind it gives me major anxiety and makes me feel depressed lol
