Another good example of faithful reproduction of an old sound but with modern production sensibilities is american love call by Durand jones

I think your criticism is generally valid. But in this particular case I think it's a counter-intuitive nit-pick that would ruin the album. It's great because it's so authentic. The late 70s and 80s pop renaissance in music has been going strong and will be for a long while. There are myriads of new subgenres that reinvision/reinvent those influences. At this point what you're asking for is actually vastly less fresh than a simple, honest, no frills love letter to a genre past. There are hundreds of albums a year that reevaluate and recontextualize synthpop, r&b, soul, etc etc etc. There are few that just pay simple homage and do so so masterfully and eloquently. It's focused, seamless, and refreshing.

Not everything needs to be fusion ass bullshit, and I love fusion ass bullshit. Sometimes you just gotta leave shit alone. Especially when there are a thousand albums from this year doing what you're asking of Ware!

Never listened to this artist before, but heard some crazy good things about her new album. Will check this and that. Also that Spotlight song is fantastic. Its smoothness reminds me of the 90s

It doesnt need to be a fusion, or a neo-post-nu-whatever, but when you are presented with the posibility to make a great disco album and you still decide to put in all those awfully dated synth embellishments for authenticity's sake then im sorry but i dont share your priorities.

Plus saying they are merely present for the sake of authenticity is an assumption. But since they are actually danke, my personal assumption is that they are there rather for the sake of dankness.

Which is slightly ironic because the dua lipa alb is the one that tries to recontextualize the influences
