Well you have to understand what happens to Rivers Cuomo during those 5 years. He's struggling emotionally. In fact, he was not happy with the Blue Album and hence, made a different album which is their sophomore album and ironically the initial failure and then-successful album to date. Getting the reaction of the initial failure, made him frustrated of what kind of music he needs to make. And Green Album came out which turns out to disappoint most of the fans. Some even left them for good. As a huge Weezer fans, I do enjoy the music they made even though I admit that some songs are disappointment but I still listen to it. Anyway, it's your opinion to rate this album poor but for me, this is the uniqueness of weezer in which they had different sounds and styles on each album

This album is way to poppy, which makes it seem like there is little substance to it, but every song is just so damn catchy and I can't help but like this album especially Hash Pipe and Island in the Sun. It still sucks that they haven't made anything nearly as awesome as Pinkerton and Blue, but that doesn't mean new Weezer sucks. They just suck when they are compared to their first 2 albums. This, Red, and Hurley are pretty awesome albums in my opinion. =W= forever.
