Easily their best, though NAG is underrated

This is easily the peak in their whole career and pretty much untouchable at this point

This, Ashes of the Wake, and Sacrament are toe-to-toe equal for me

This is their best by quite some margin.

Maybe I'll blame nostalgia for why I like Ashes and Sacrament the same amount. Never heard this one in full til a few years ago, meanwhile my dad and I were jamming the other two right when they dropped

This is just pure riffs, Ashes and Sacrament still rule though.

Ashes, especially.

Yes, agreed hard. Sturm is probably as good as we'll get them from them now.

I mean all their records have some ragers on them to a certain extent. I also really like straight for the sun and ghostwalking but they always have a bunch of redundant fillers on their latest records.

Sturm certainly was a step in the right direction though after kinda lackluster resolution and wrath

Sturm had tighter songwriting. I like a couple songs off each album too, but I wish they'd either improve their songwriting or experiment a little. Their setlist has always consisted of Palaces, Ashes, Sacrament + last album so it's not like it'll hurt them to try something different for a change. I don't want another comp of log b-sides.

And Checkmate was pretty meh ):

Yes, definitely. Sturm was interesting since they had a lot to work through up to that record which made it seem really focused. Also really like that "ballad" kinda stuff they've been experimenting with on that outing.

Checkmate was definitely by the numbers, b side material. But, I mean they have their certain sound and it's hard to think of a different direction they could take. They seem really "in- boxed" with their sound

I just think it would be nice if they tried making something like Overlord or Reclamation again.

I'm not saying they should deviate from their trademark sound a lot, but I can definitely see them incorporating new elements into their songs if they ever choose to go down that route.
