BTW, i'm new here so i won't pretend to know better than the rest, but we should consider the possibility that the dissonance or disconnection between the gloomy lyrics, provided with context, from the Pitchfork article, and the sound is probably a conscious decision? Perhaps as a way to communicate and texturize the duality of his persona.

Well, think about it: the words of an artist may be poignant and give greater appreciation of the music, but knowing the lyrics isn't integral to enjoying the music. There are a lot of artists whose words are practically indistinguishable to me (Converge), but that doesn't get in the way of my enjoyment.

you really have to listen extremely actively to discern lyrical meaning from songs. i enjoy listening more to the vocal techniques used than dissecting lyrical meaning. but if something jumps out at me as being awesome, cool. same goes for stuff that is obviously vapid.

Despite not liking this album at all, I read the pitchfork article and I have to ask, just how do some people manage to get through life with all that pain and suffering? Just a reminder that we need to treat people gently as we don't really know what they go through. Not that I needed it anyway. Article totally broke my heart. Hope he gets better.

I didn't exactly mean gently like an egg that would break with any wrong move, more like treating people with respect and with a non judgmental attitude because you don't really know why they get to be how they are. Maybe if you were to carry the weight they carry on their shoulders every day, you probably even wouldn't make it through a single day. I didn't mean pampering them with confetti constantly.
