I'd say that Botch and Converge were more "Original" Metalcore.
As I Lay Dying is by no means bad, but they are what we nowadays call Metalcore.

don't get me wrong, I like AILD a lot, but this album sounds really poor, I mean, the vocals sound horrible, production sucks, and I believe they had almost no imagination when writing this, the lyrics aren't that bad, but in general terms, this is such a poor album, their later releases just keep getting better.

Tim sounds like a senior citizen in this album, I am not kidding, it reminds me of my grandpa having a coughing attack

This album is horrendous. Completely awful, there isn't one highlight here. Submerge your head in ice
and rip each strand of hair out of your head and that is this album. ^_^

This isn't death metal at all
They're basically copying Zao, an early metalcore band

I dunno why, but I found this to be the most enjoyable AILD album. Maybe its because its a lot loss tired and formulaic. Maybe the novelty of the band from when I was 11 years old.
Eh.

My god, some of these old-ass reviews are so badly written.
"Some might say "Well, dude, they like totatlly were only a band for a month before hitting the studio," or some shizzle like that. Too bad, they should have waited until the songs were more developed."
Jesus, rant-y much? LOL

There's some good songs here but obviously it's super rough

What couldve been... Imagine an AILD without Gilbert's absolutely godawful disgraceful clean singing. This album is probably their best other than of course Frail Words. What a shame.
