numerous moments in this album where Whitechapel opt for a solo or riff, rather than descending into the cookie cutter method of slowing things down for a "huge" breakdown
Will check this out based on that line. I enjoyed their earlier stuff for what it was, but breakdowns in general (unless really well done) usually just piss me off.

The first two albums were a guilty pleasure of mine. Just to blast for senseless breakdowns etc. This album is a different animal and a decent metal album to boot.

used to like these guys in my real early teens but now years later I find them pretty hard to listen to because they pretty much have no creativity and are pretty mediocre to me and every album for the most part sounds the same.I don't know maybe I'll check this out just for the hell of it.

Shit- this is pretty good.
Might grow on me.
Dead Silence is great.
Thought the album ended on a weak note.

Is there anyone who hated this band before this release? Will this release convert?

Just check out the track Dead Silence, it will tell you what you need to know.

Because the site has been overrun with core kids lately

'Their most solid effort'
Shouldn't this review be for the Somatic Defilement then?

The band have removed all their new material off of youtube, so I can't.

I was never really into deathcore much but have slowly gotten into it over the past few months (starting with All Shall Perish and The Contortionist) ... I stumbled upon this Whitechapel CD (along with the Red Chord's latest release) and it's pretty solid ... their older stuff and other deathcore (job for a cowboy, carnifex, etc.) aren't too appealing to me, though.

I really thought their old stuff was boring as hell because they weren't technical at all and consisted of a lot of breakdowns, but I liked this album. They actually added leads to the chugging and the leads were actually pretty good. Also, although the vocalist's voice is not too varied, it's pretty powerful and I dig it. I always hated on this band for being another shitty "core" band because that's exactly what they were. They made me a fan after this one. Even though it's not the best deathcore album ever, it's definitely a fun listen and is heavy as fuck. Reminds me of The Acacia Strain at times

The Acacia Strain are terrible
|
| |
That really doesn't mean anything to me. All I did was make a comparison which is actually fairly accurate. The Acacia Strain is unabashed about being heavy for the sake of heaviness and this band takes a lot out of their book.
|
| |
All I did was state a fact.
The acacia stain only think they are heavy bc they tune so pointlessly low, G# at last count. To me it's just silly. Whitechapel started off crap but have become somewhat better with age. AS are still junning away and inducing tears from all my yawning.
And besides, whitechapel are fortunate enough to have Bozeman.
