Decent review but the album recommendations are really weird. Lord of Steel has absolutely nothing whatsoever in common with Priest's Painkiller or Dio's Holy Diver.
As for my opinion of the album... man, I knew Manowar had been going downhill for the last two decades but LoS may be a new low. It doesn't even sound remotely like the band they were in their prime. Computerized production through and through, boring riffs, lack of the catchy melodies of old. Joey DeMaio used to try things as a composer and bassist but not anymore. Eric Adams will certainly go down as one of the genre's top singers but this is his worse performance on record. I don't even feel like talking about Donnie "Hack"zik. Karl Logan seems like a cool guy and he does an adequate job rendering past classics live but this band is in dire need of reuniting with Ross the Boss, IMO.

You are right(from your point of view) in pretty much everything you say, and I ve stated (or implied) in the review that there won't be a unanimous decision about the quality of the record.
I too want them to go back to their early days, but I happen to like Kings of Metal or (especially) Louder than Hell as well. LoS seems to be following closely these two records, and it is a grower. Even with that minimum of melodies they actually write, this record (save for the first three tracks) is very catchy and powerful in the end.

It depends on how familiar you are with their discography and what your opinion about their previous albums is. If you seek for a first listen then no, go for Sign Of The Hammer or Hail to England. If you were never intrigued by them, then this is album is not for you. If you ever liked them at any point (especially if you liked Kings of Metal) then give it a try.

I've never exactly listened to any of their material. But now I know where to start haha.

It's a okey album, still don't know why they didn't put in the songs they had in the EP Thunder In The Sky... "Let The Gods Decide" and "God Or Man" would have fit perfectly in there. There are some other nice songs though.

They initially intended to write a concept album, named Hammer of the Gods. These tracks you mention were parts of the story (and the album). Later on this idea was abandoned and they decided to restart writing and make a non-concept album. This record is Lord of Steel and this is why Let the gods Decide and God or Men are not included.

Don't like the weird distortion on the guitars but enjoyable nonetheless, also this really is a grower.
