i think that really points to how far ahead of the curve it was when released. producers now are just starting to catch up.

This is different from no york because it's an actual label release. no york was a mixtape i recall, because he distributed it for free to the chagrin of warner

i'd have to disagree with that. all the beats on here are pretty standard for what flying lotus, dibiase, knxwledge, samiyam, and daedelus have all been doing for years, not to mention the hordes of their sound-alikes.

however it may have been one of the first times someone has successfully tried to rap over those kind of beats which i would have figured impossible

yes exactly. also the beats are very solid compared to a lot of their solo material, especially for "hip-hop" tracks. Very forward thinking for a rap record from 2011.

^ I think it takes some getting use to if your familiar with his work with Exile.

I agree with LordPots and kingsoby tho, for Blu to just rap over these electronic styled beats is pretty different. I thought it was pretty forward-thinking when I first heard the album. I thought the same when I heard Le1f's Dark York as well.

Really don't get why there's a shortened re-release of this without the Madlib tracks released 2 years later.

because no york was an unofficial leak of the album that he put out since warner bros wouldnt release it and then he later was released of his contract and put the album out officially in 2013 as 'york'. somewhere along the way tracks got switched up a bit.

Yeah I figured it was something like that as I got this version from DatPiff and I've seen York on iTunes and Amazon etc. Just weird that they shortened it and removed one of the clear highlights.

Never Be the Same is definitely the best track of the entire album, I dunno if thats one of the madlib produced tracks and if thats what ur referring to but if so agreed hard. thats straight up just my favourite Blu song in general.
