ye Plague rules. Just saw these dudes on Friday in Cleveland and it was pretty awesome. Didn't care for them before but now I see they're really good (and my taste has changed a LOT since this album came out)

I think this falls under the weight of its own ambition & the production holds it back further. Epic, grandiose & isolated moments that could’ve worked well (& do occasionally) unfortunately the songs themselves aren’t particularly memorable.

I don’t mind their overall sound (minus a few production hindrances) but this could’ve been so much better.

Xenoflux is cohesive enough, thought I might have something when that came on. Heard this 3 times now & my opinion hasn’t really changed since the first listen.

No songs on this album are forgettable imo. I don't need cohesiveness in music in general, let alone in metal. I just like hearing beautiful music and this has it in abundance. The massive heights this album reaches in places makes up for the comparative 'lows' and makes this incredibly enjoyable from start to finish.

They attempt climaxes far too often, it weakens the resulting payoff. Choose your moment, build over time, add in a little atmosphere & execute. Cohesiveness isn’t everything, I agree, but it can’t disregarded entirely. I don’t think the production helps because it sucks the life out of the more subtle arrangements, think that would definitely add depth to the record.

Fair point, well explained. I hadn't really considered that they try too many climactic events, but thinking about it they kinda do. Still fully disagree on the ratings of 3/3.5 though!

Icicles fucking rules. buildup is huge and those drum patterns slay, even if the lyrics are kinda lame. favorite NeOb song.

if you take the 15% of each song that's bm and add it together, yeah that sounds about right

Tapestry is like prog bm, but the rest of the album is straight up prog metal in the opeth vein
