Prime Jeff is still the best metal guitarist of all time. A shame he stopped giving a fuck and joined a lame band like Arch Enemy. He's still alive but I'm gonna say RIP anyway.

yeah not only was this a foundational album for me but it also inspired me to pick up a guitar. i remember getting guitar world back in like '06 and there was a whole article on loomis and some playthroughs of tracks from this.
couldnt believe someone could be that good at an instrument and had to try it for myself lol.

@KjSwantko
Loomis had to make a living out of his talent as a guitarist, and along with Williams, he is the least responsible for the untimely termination of Nevermore.
On the other hand, modern times are unforgiving for starting a new band, let alone a proficient one from the start.

The Psalm one was probably the one I watched the most specifically because of those intro sweeps. It was the fastest guitar playing I'd ever seen at the time. Even now I can't even play that fast...

his rhythm work is super creative on this one. i've not really been the biggest fan of his solos but the riff in the chorus of Born is still pretty mindblowing

The sweep solo in the final track absolutely blew my mind as a guitarist, I think that was Smith not Loomis though

@Voivod, yeah man nothing you said is wrong...but there's no rule saying he couldn't still solo his ass off in Arch Enemy. It would enhance the music. But the band just sucks. Even Jeff's tone in YouTube videos has been weak in recent years. Frankly he just fell off hard....but doesn't change the fact he was still the GOAT in his prime. m/
