My review's rating is dropping every day
I need to post it fast

Album Rating: 2.5
'i always check jefflebowski's media stream/URI to see if he actually listens to any of the albums we disagree about and (SHOCKER) he doesn't'
hmm, this seems to be untrue

as derivative as some of the songs' beats are, I still don't see how this could be a 2.5 jeff

Album Rating: 2.5
It is warming on me after a few listens, but i just feel the style doesn't really suit her compared to the debut/she's changed styles for the wrong reasons.
Primadonna's a pretty cool single though

I kinda agree with you
but the slower songs (as in Lies, Hypocrates, Teen Idle, F & L) are just aaaaaah

Album Rating: 2.5
Lies is definitely one of the best things here

I finally have the perfect sentences to use for my review too
Anything for the crown (primadonna)
and I wanna be a real fake (Teen Idle)

Naww I was never really a 5, more like a 4.5 but a couple of tracks (Bubblegum Bitch, Living Dead) have really dropped off for me, Power and Control, Lies, and Fear and Loathing are still utterly brilliant though.

Power & Control is great! At first I was not fond of it but I like its retro-anthem vibe and the melody to it...
Sex Yeah is also awesome. It reminds me of Marina's past album because it's much of a social commentary rather than the love-fest Electra Heart is.

i always thought this sucked since the beginning sweet

When's your review going to be up anyway? I got bored of this one a long time ago - too good an album to only have a tbt.

The only song I dislike is Radioactive... I hate to say it but it does sound like Rihanna's We Found Love, it's music video is much less appealing in comparison to Primadonna and the club beats made me first believe she was selling herself off to the music industry (because it was so different to The Family Jewels).

^ not on the album anyway :]

Album Rating: 3.5
yeah, sorry, I meant 180. This album is ridiculously catchy up and till the final two songs, what stops this from being better than her debut is 1) the more mainstream approach (which is the whole point of Electra Heart, I know) 2) Some verses are hit and miss, less clever quips and wording compared to TFJ. I like the beats, although I have to agree some are too similar. Some songs are so powerful though, such as 'Starring Role', 'Teen Idle', 'Valley of The Dolls'. I also think the bonus tracks are weak to, disregarding 'Sex Yeah'.

none of the songs are actually as interesting/out there as made out to be in the review.
this "lana del rey/im sad about fame" act she puts up is so fake and melodramatic
but i can vouch for primadonna, lies and power and control though. those are good.

I honestly do not think she is putting a Lana del Rey act at all.
This issue is much like the generic issue on Youtube where every artist is accused of imitating Lady Gaga.
Just because they have mildly similar concepts does not mean their music is the same, as a matter of fact both the Family Jewels and Electra Heart are extremely different to the purely melancholic and vapid Born to Die.
|
| |
There's a difference between accusing of imitation and using a person to simply clarify a point. I
was doing the latter. And I agree, the concepts are /remotely/ similar (NOT the music), but similar
enough to use as a contrasting example. That wasn't the issue in my comment though, I was mainly
irritated about the music.
Tacking on electronic influences is only a cheap mask to cover the fact that the album isn't that
great. That's why "Lies" is the best song on the album, the dubstep influences slow it down, but not
to the point where everything sounds overbearing because of Marina's voice (don't get me wrong, her
voice is amazing and I think that it has so much operatic power, like Florence's).
