We're not being hipsters. There is nothing ironic about it. Lil B knows what he is doing. That doesn't mean the music is bad. It's humorous, he has a good overall message, and happens to have some of the best beats in the industry today.

If anything you're being a hipster in trying to over-analyze Lil B. lol

I'm not overanalyzing, I realize that it's not about the rapping, it's about his persona and the production but it doesn't stop his songs from being obnoxious to listen to

I think his message his so positive and encouraging that it is hard to see it as obnoxious. I mean it is meant to be humorous nine times out of ten, but he does mean it.

Though there certainly is a lot of music that I simply cannot for the life of me get into simply because of the sound of the vocalists' voice. So to that I can relate.

A lot of people who take Lil B at face-value and don't like him do take him too seriously though, and often are just not in on the "joke", if you will.

lil b fans seem to forget that this is music, and can therefore be judged for its musical merits, which are practically non-existent. as likable as he may be, it doesn't stop him from being a poor rapper, for his lack of technical ability and writing proficiency.

Judging a rapper's "technical ability" is extremely subjective, even in the extremely subjective realm of judging music in general.

Of course, there are rappers that are very skilled in terms of wordplay, "playing" with / over the beat, rhythm / speed, etc. But there is also a large group of new rappers that are putting out an entirely different type of hip-hop where the music is not as focused on the lyrics or flow, but the overall package. Lil B falls into that category.

It isn't a genre that is for everyone. No genre is for everyone. If you like classic, technical rap, that's great, I do too. But I really enjoy the new age of hip-hop acts that are more focused on the entire production and not so concerned with lyrical technicality. It still "sounds good" to me, because the production is top notch, and it's fun.

But like I said, I know what you are saying. If you understand that Lil B is just trying to have fun, and you still don't like it, that's fine.
