Thsi Soundtrack is untouchable

Sorry, AngelofDeath, but your opinion sucks. Oblivion is tighter and each track has purpose and direction. Skyrim's is too drawn out and several tracks are just small cues rather than fully fleshed out ideas (eg "Awake")
Oblivion's is one of those few soundtracks I would call perfect. The only problem is that while playing the game, it can repetitive due just having an hour of music. Skyrim's problem is that it has too much music (almost 4 hours) and a lot of it is place specific/even specific.

"Oblivion's soundtrack sucked. It was like two songs, and they were both boring. Morrowind is the best game in the series. Skyrim has the best soundtrack."
Well, hmmmmmmmm
|
| |
Yeah, because when you have a game where you're going to log over a hundred hours of play, a small handful of tracks is the perfect amount...
Not to mention the tracks themselves are mediocre, at best.

I'd venture to say there were about 20-25 tracks regularly used in Oblivion. The problem was that there were only a few songs for each type of event, like exploring, etc. and so it felt like less music.
But I never saw a problem with that, because the music is so passive. I could listen to the songs they provided for another 350 hours if I really wanted to.

Angel, it seems we have opposite views on what we look for in game music. You like overblown "every-single-thing-I-do-is-epic" type orchestrations and I prefer understated pieces.
I mean if I traversing cow country, I don't need low rumbling and chorus and swelling high notes. I don't care if there is a dragon and giants nearby, it is still boring farmland. I mean, you are the Dragonborn. It should just be another day in the life.

No, that's not really the case. The mellow, more ambient pieces in Skyrim trounce on the ones in Oblivion. They're just much more interesting, even as background music. But I would say lack of "epic-ness" is a problem that plagues Oblivion.

"Hey, here's dungeon 137. It looks the same and has the same music as the last 136! Sweet! I am so immersed right now!"
|
| |
Maybe I just got spoiled growing up on Final Fantasy games where there's a different, appropriate, and well-composed track in every zone of the game lol.
|
| |
so epic.
|
| |
the only problem with this soundtrack is the battle music and night without stars
|
| |
but how can you say most of the music on oblivion has more direction all the songs are 1 minute long lol
|
| |
and theres no sweet medieval songs which skyrim and morrowind have plenty of
|
| |
Oblivion sucks cock agreed
this is alright tho fuck skyrim
|
| |
yeah elder scrolls arena is the best 'cause it's the oldest right??!!
|
| |
That's not even what I said but ok
|
| |
i know, i was just being a facetious dick
by all means carry on
|
| |
lol Well Morrowind is actually my favorite
I don't mean Skyrim is bad tho, the game is good, I played it for 100 hours or so because it's fun, but I get pretty sick of people saying how deep it is
|
| |
true, there seems to be a bit of a backlash building now though just like with oblivion when skyrim came out.
to be honest i like all the ES games post daggerfall (which i haven't played) and morrowind does the RPG thing the best, but i'm always surprised by how shitty the combat mechanics are in all of them, the pathetic floaty melee is pretty unforgivable in a game coming out as recently as skyrim
|

Combat isn't really my main issue either, I can sort of understand why it's so bare since the game is big, but that's kind of the problem: The game just keeps churning out more stuff at you and it becomes pretty evident that it's swalloing more than it can chew, there's a lot of shit in the game but they have no real mechanics around them so its really shallow
honestly I have no idea why since Rockstar does it fine, i don't if it's because bethesda somehow thinks they'll lose their "hardcoar argpeegee" fanbase if they put in some decent mechanics for once
