he's talking about form and melody. you can put as many instruments as you want layered on top of a song with a simple structure and it will still have the same simple structure. he's saying that you're interpreting more layers as being more complex when that isn't the case.

Good review, but wowwee do I disagree.
I think this is a pretty great debut EP, and they manage to pull off the odd genre mesh very well.
I do see how this is not everyone's cup of tea though.
