i like chutes best too i think, but the first 3 are all pretty comparable in quality. this one's like the king of limbs of the shins

discography. more laid back and cohesive but less passionate than earlier releases -- nonetheless quite good but not as good

as the others. as much as i can appreciate broken bells, it seems to have made it harder for mercer to be as effective as he

was earlier in his career

why king of limbs ew? i can't help but compare the 2 -- i feel like they parallel one another in a number of ways

For the record, I think I sort of get what you mean. =P
It's that record everyone will feel okay hating on too, just because it's safe.

I liked King of Limbs. =)
I like this too, I think what he's trying to say is that it's a more simple version of the artist's sound and that big fans may not exactly like that.

don't know how this is simpler than their first two albums which are where most of their fans ame from

Simpler in overall sound. Like, they have some pretty 'weird' tracks for sure. Nothing out of the ordinary on this.

while both albums (kol, pom) suffer because they lack the passion of their earlier albums, they are

cohesive units that show a level of professionalism that is unparalleled in alt/indie rock.

incredibly smooth listens that reward a careful listen but 2 albums that are ultimately just nice

blips on the radar of long and prosperous careers.

you don't need to bring zach braff into this just cause he was in a movie with the shins in the sound track. lame.

sure the album is okay, but there are some gems here.

It's not that bad of an album for the Shins' standards -- it's just not as good as other albums they've released, like Inverted World or Wincing the Night Away.
