Learning some songs off of this just because I know some girls who keep asking if I know any by him... and I don't.

Look im from an area that loves beach music and all this stuff and I love Jack as a guy and what he stands for but his music can in no way shape or form be considered great. It is simple chords with simple lyrics with simple messages. There is not alot of talent at display in any of his songs, not even song writing talent. Im not trying to hate on him but to get a 3.9 album rating? Just cuz u like the dude, just like i do, doesnt mean its great. Sorry to come on here and hate but I was just alil surprised.

I don't agree with your analyses if you are attaching it to his entire catalog but I don't think this

album is a 4 no. The first two absolutely are and his songwriting is debatable. I'm guessing that you

alone cannot make that determination for the entire internet. js

When you listen to this album try and ignore all the hoopla around it. Put it on when you start thinking about someone or somebody you really miss and you'll see it's place as an album. Definitely not a classic but when you're in the mood it's the best thing to hit your eardrums.

I kind of remember my art teacher playing this album in class every day, and I kind of remember it being terrible. I sort of want to rate it, but idk if my memory of it is reliant enough.

Jack Johnson sets himself apart from his contemporaries with this release, creating some laid back Hawaiian beach vibes, with hints of blues and reggae thrown in for good measure. To compare Johnson to someone like Jason Mraz is a slap to the face, because he is so much more than just an "Acoustic/contemporary pop" artist. In between dreams creates scenery, and transports you to his world, full of warm Saturdays filled with banana pancakes and mango trees. This is the essential Jack Johnson record, and goes down as a classic for me.

Do you guys agree/disagree? What stops this from being a classic for you?

Best tracks - Banana pancakes, Good people, Never know.
