nah the only drudkh albums i would say sucked are the albums in between handful of stars and blood in our wells. like microcosmos. i can't even make it through one song before turning it off. so boring!

lol microcosmos is one of their best. top 3 at least. handful of stars was the definition of boring, stupidly bland post-metal that's been done better by more competent bands.

top 3 is #1 - autumn aurora, #2 - handful of stars, #3 - blood in our wells.

handful of stars isn't post metal... it's shoegaze influenced black metal. stop abusing names like post metal. post metal doesn't even fucking mean anything. it's just an umbrella term that retards throw around to look like they know what they are talking about while they are completely clueless which is the reason why they use such a pointlessly vague term anyway.

and no, drudkh has a higher level of musicianship than most other bands in the blackgaze subgenre and it clearly shows. they are much more competent than their peers, which is one reason why old silver key was so great (that rhythm section on a great sound system is fucking sublime).

genre labels are inherently arbitrary, there is nothing more meaningful about saying shoegaze bm than post-metal. both describe the music, just because you're too slow to understand what post-metal is doesn't mean it doesn't have clear characteristics. your understanding is the thing that's vague.

what matters is that Handful is boring as shit, totally uninspired, and painfully average. who cares how good of musicians they are if they can't compose anything interesting. OSK was also pretty average compared to the genre's best.

anyway you've proven time and time again that you know little to nothing about black metal (and metal in general) so there's no real point in arguing with you.

actually i've proven quite conclusively that i have a much deeper understanding of music than the userbase on this site. as i said, post metal is too vague and doesn't accurately explain what's going on at all. one of the first "post" metal albums i purchased was arcturus' la masquerade infernale. another one i bought around the same time was solefald's 'neonism.'

what do those two albums have to do with handful of stars? nothing. nothing whatsoever. such a tag is meaningless. it's as non-descriptive and pointless as just calling it a metal album. we use genre tags to differentiate between bands and create a point of reference. post metal encompasses many styles, many bands, and many points of reference. it's useless.

handful of stars was absolutely inspired, emotionally powerful, and drudkh's best since autumn of aurora. for once they took a risk, then a bunch of shit sucking douchebags like you start hating on them until they go back and hide in their founding style. pathetic. thanks for killing good music, asshole.

I'll admit that Pitchfork brought me here. Hadn't heard of them until I saw their review for this album this morning. Immediately listened through it, and fucking loved it. Gotta give it some more spins, though...

And now my only complaint is that "Eternal Circle" should have been a full ten-minute song...

Crysis, I am a newbie here, I've recently wrote a review on Hail Spirit Noir's debut . What's your take on the album? Check it if you haven't done so yet

not 100% sure my rating, but I do like it. Forgotten Legends is still my favorite, though.
