I'm gonna be straightforward and neg this review because you went on and on about how much you wanted it to sound a certain way and gave no credit to what the artist was trying to accomplish and how effective they were in what they used to accomplish it.

Like mentioned before, your main grip is the lack of metal that you were hoping for, or the lack of "dirt and grime" that you mentioned. This really is a foolish statement.

This isn't that bad of a review at all really. The guy isn't complaining that it's not "metal" enough. He's just saying that the post-rock bits aren't very creative here and the blending of the two elements doesn't succeed on this album. It worked better on the other album which was coincidentally more metal (hence the comparison).

@HSThomas, I think reviewing takes all aspects into consideration: comparison to past works, comparison to similar work from other artists, and the reviewer's own takeaway value. This might sound lame, but it's honestly like a scientific method. Make an accusation and see if it stands the test.
