Honestly at this point I think that they just call singers with that style "operatic" simply because they're good.

You can be good without sounding like you're trying to show off lmao

Also, Layne Staley and Chris Cornell were still technically gifted to an extent...so there's that.

Agent, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if you called Bach or Beethoven "showoffy Germanic cucks" or something like that.

lmao, nah. what would they have to show off for? besides, they pretty much had to rely on their compositions more than anything.

Oh, believe me, a lot, and I mean *a lot* of classical music is something you'd call "just a show off" if you think Dickinson is just showing off. Go listen to or just go read about Bach's The Art of Fugue or Beethoven's Grand Fugue. Or read about capriccios or études.

I guess it's just a tone thing for me, I don't really dig vocals like on "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" or "Aces High".

'I don't know why people call this style operatic tbh. Opera is totally different. I think they confuse vibrato with opera or something like that idk.'

Whilst this may be correct I think it's obvious what someone means when they say 'operatic' in this context & whether it's technically the right term or not isn't particularly relevant. I don't think you intended to use this against Agent anyway, just wanted to make that point.

For the record I happen to agree with him, it's not my preferred style of metal vocal either & at worst it can be noticeably irksome.

Generally prefer Ozzy's drugged-out caterwaul or James Hetfield's thrashy grit. I can do Mustaine to an extent, but not on their first album. and that's with the "trve" metal shit.

@Agent
Unfortunate but alright, it's your loss, I suppose.

I don't really consider it a loss, considering some of my favorites in music are technically not good at all, for example Geoff Rickly of Thursday. On Full Collapse he was practically tone deaf but I loved that.

Funny how it took over 20 years for other rap rock acts to even get close to how good this is

I really dig the whole "emo rap" thing though it's a totally different lane than this.

Stray From the Path, Hacktivist, Dance Gavin Dance are all pretty good but ofc not as good as RATM.

My point is more that 90s & 00s rap rock combinations were so far below RATM
