I know man... I love resident evil too so I'd probably love this series

I remember when SH3 came out, I was still in HS, and my best friend at the time came over and we stayed up all night playing it, and made the mistake of playing on Hard puzzle difficulty and were stumped for like 2 hours on the first real puzzle...

I've been replaying Downpour recently, still think it's so underrated. Terrible combat system, and monster design, but it was the first game outside of Team Silent to capture some of the essence of the first 4 games (even if it wasn't scary). And I liked how it tried to do its own thing without ripping off those shite films or using any of the cliche tropes associated with the series at this point.
I reckon if they'd had a little more time to tighten things up it could have been a real banger.

I've never played these games before but am now on a huge Silent Hill kick. I've watched let's plays for half of them already and I'm a little obsessed.

Yeah I wish other games could match silent hills level of atmosphere, story, visuals, creepiness, music etc. It's the best thing ever when you get the plank and can run around in the fog bopping the headless mannequins. God I love silent hill. Even the room is awesome but it's clunky.

Clunky? In what way?

have you played it? when you go outside the room the combat and the way henry controls is not as fluid as the controls in 2 and 3 i think. the story is one of the best in the silent hill series though.

I disagree completely, I always thought it played pretty fluidly.

i prefer the tank resident evil style controls but i know they aren't for everyone.

Pt was a cool enough tech demo but it was also incredibly tedious to play, with some of the most retardedly cryptic and downright nonsensical 'puzzles'. I'm sure it would have been fantastic had it not been cancelled tho.
Silent hill 4: the room is mad underrated. Not the masterpiece that 2 is, but still fantastic overall

yeah the room is underrated. SH3 is by far my favorite of the series but i wouldn't say it's as underrated/overlooked as the room is.
also the only versions of SH 2 and 3 worth playing are the original ps2 releases. all the ports are absolute garbage. the ps3 hd collection has the worst ports i've ever played. especially 2, they remove most of the fog which helped mask imperfections in the graphics quite well. idk about the different versions of the room though.

The fog was supposed to emulate that tunnel vision dream-like state. It's supposed to be dense, concealing who knows what. The hd version fucking ruined that. Easily the worst port I've ever played

yep it really kills the atmosphere

Yo, Downpour was so close to being good. It definitely did capture the atmosphere of the earlier games though.

i played sh2 on the ps3 port and i thought it was alright enough in terms of atmosphere. Then again, never played the og ps2 version

PS3 port was better than the XBOX one, which was a complete clusterfuck beyond repair. But the original PS2 version is still the one to play.

One of the best soundtracks to one of my favorite games. Finished almost all of them countless times and I still don't know which one is the best, but I think SH2 is my favorite by a narrow margin. Yamaoka is a genius

Silent hill 2 is my fave for sure... And then maybe the room. I know that might sound dumb, but it was my first silent hill game and I think the sound and level design are excellent.
