"In terms of the actual points I made though, I disagree that they would be more valid if this was a lesser known project. Just looking at this review objectively, there is no mention of the music on this album. It is nearly 100% bashing the artists and coming up with clever ways of calling this album a pile of shit. To me, that just isn't cool. Reviews like that just really hurt the legitimacy of the site and give the complete wrong impression to people who aren't in on the joke as you put it. I'm not trying to say that all reviews need to be cut, dry, and academic.. but there's a fine line."





Agree to disagree sir, I honestly feel no damage is done. I think some occasionally well placed humor is as important as any serious efforts e.g. humorous commentary on news channels and in newspapers. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.

I've read a few neg reviews outside of Sputnik I think it's that shitty

If that's your main point then agreeing to disagree isn't necessary.. I completely agree with that wholeheartedly. The best reviews are always the ones that balance humor and accessibility with substance and analysis. But in the same way that you don't want to be 100% academic in a review, you also don't want to be 100% humor with no substance.

And just looking beyond that idea, I guess I just feel that the humor is this review is really mean spirited. To me, saying things like "you must have Downs if you don't see how much this album sucks" or "criticizing the writers is like backhanding a retard for not getting a perfect SAT score" is more trolling than it is light-hearted humor. You're taking it to a level where you're personally insulting anyone that actually liked the album which is just unnecessary and makes you look bad.

They are heavy handed and could use some revision. I see your point but don't think it deserves an equally heavy handed rebuke.

Yeah I agree with you on that. I overreacted with my first post and blew it a bit out of proportion. I think the reason I felt compelled to so thoroughly criticize it was because of comments like this:

"Excellent review, hit it out of the park."

and especially

"what a well written critical review"

Just the abundance of comments like that made me feel like I needed to really explain my point in order to be taken seriously. I realize went unnecessarily far though. My apologies :D

I think the wording has simply overtaken the enthusiasm they intended to express. Had they stated it differently you may not have taken such offence. Offence may not be right perhaps I mean "gotten your dander up". I don't think you need to do anything special to be taken seriously, we know you now. ;^P

lol you guys are getting too serious about this, although its nice to have a civil discussion, its pretty rare here. Basically I hate this album, find it hilarious, but was not surprised at all about it. I wrote it basically to entertain myself and if it entertained anyone else all the better. Like I said before I could have written a standard style review, Ive done many of those, but I would have been bored to tears.



Check out Chuck Klosterman's review of this on Grantland.com, he rips this without mentioning the music pretty much as well aside from like one sentence.

How do I not get what? Not "getting it" and not being a fan of it are two different things. I get that he hated this album and wanted to express than in an entertaining way. I just don't like the idea of posting a "review" where all you do is bash the artists in such a mean spirited way. You obviously have the right to saw whatever you want and the hate for this album is quite entertaining, but if you're gonna actually post something as a review at least clean it up a bit and talk about the music too. Does that seem crazy?

Gonna stop now, I've hijacked this way beyond what I originally intended :D
