clover - nah, i left a few out. midnight city should be on there too though tbh. idk, i think this is a really consistent, nostalgia-inducing masterpiece. outro and into are in a league of their own though, right up there with lower your eyelids for best m83 songs

Wait, Midnight City, Intro and Reunion I enjoy on this. Claudia Lewis, Raconte and OK Pal are all garbage. The rest is just there, bland

that synth/bass breakdown in the middle is easily the best moment on the album. the bass slaps on the second verse are up there too

raconte is super cute wth is wrong with you?

and outro 'bland'? pft

The outro is pretty good if you make it that far true. Raconte I found fun for about 1 and a half listens then...not for me.
This suffered coming out about the same time as 'kaputt', both synthy pop dreamscapes, I just majorly preferred the Destroyer effort and that made this album almost insultingly dumbed down and padded out in comparison.
Album isn't horrible at all, I just never fell for it beyond the first few songs.

it's strange to me that your appreciation of one album (which isn't all that similar to this) would make this seem comparatively "insultingly dumbed down" (which, also, how? this is pretty well crafted synth pop music)
i'm afraid i don't see your point of view, daniel plainview

I suppose there are albums that I'd label 'big 'n bland' that make a lot of noise but I find boring. This is one, The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place is another. The Grimes is similar too, fussy arrangements and lots going on but they don't convey anything to me melodically or emotionally. I can totally see why people find them impressive I just personally don't like them
Kaputt and this both had that 'back to the 80's' aesthetic that had just taken off, comparisons aren't fair but it's just how I felt at the time.
Wait, Intro and Midnight City are really good though so this dude's approach can work well when the songs are well written

Guess it's different strokes for different folks. I'm in the minority sometimes as well. This album is very weird. Personally I think it's a stroke of genius but not everyone will feel that way. The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place is absolutely wonderful as well. Maybe you're just not a fan of post-rock. M83 definitely have their post-rock moments while incorporating some electronica and shoegaze. The album seems to be a beautiful and wonderful drug trip from beginning to end, but that's just me. I love all mentioned genres.
In other news, his new single is addicting (which is actually why I came here, just got sidetracked)

But so many say that Intro, Midnight City, and Outro are the best songs on here and while they're absolutely mammoth tracks, I still think the show stopper is "Echoes of Mine" and "Klaus, I Love You," but that's also just me.

I hate myself for not getting into more styles of music sooner. First three tracks are phenominal (that's as far as I've yet gotten).
