I said "it's real for (most of) the rappers, it's a fantasy for (most of) the listeners"

this isn't even a controversial statement

yeah sure but why he's taking issue with me saying that most rappers rap about real life experiences is beyond me

Colton might not have meant the point but million did when he said about the good ol boys listening to waka and gucci those guys may have been douchebags but does that make their enjoyment of the music invalid idk maybe maybe they were gay old boys idk

@Colton: Idk if you're just not trying to process my whole posts or? I said, "But the music is almost inseparably a product created by people that have. I would just like the average hip hop fan to appreciate that." THAT is my whole point. It's not just some fun, fake shit like TLotR or Harry Potter or something. lol Damn

Well it is and it isnt cuban linx used mafia imagery to describe what was basically the teenage (albeit extremely dangerous) crack trade, so you could argue that was an intentional glorification and voyeurism on the part of rae and ghost that was made accesible for people all over the world to also voyeur through it

yea

there's an album by Dark Lunacy that's a concept album based on the Siege of Leningrad. I never experienced it obviously, but I wouldn't call it a fantasy putting myself in those shoes

@Fort: "does that make their enjoyment of the music invalid" It's just cultural appropriation at that point dude. Like, if you just participate in the music listening, or like football, and black comedians/actors, but you don't like the people that it came from, it does invalidate your enjoyment of something to me. Like I used to hang out with a lot of Latin people for years, but it wasn't just a party, I loved them and their culture and I let myself be changed and molded by it all.

And I'm not calling all rap imagery and PR responsible at all. But you know a lot of people in that world thought and still think mob shit and old time gangster imagery is cool. It's not like there were lots of black or hood concious movies were happening when Godfather or even Scarface came out. Who else would the people on the street have to look up to?

Already said I just meant fantasy as in something people can’t relate to but still appreciate. And I said that most rappers rap about real experiences. And then million goes “well for the artists, it’s real!” You repeat things I said back to me, but like, as an argument. I don’t understand

The act of enjoyment is between an individual, and the thing being enjoyed. Enjoyment cannot be "validated" by anyone on the outside of the act being enjoyed.

@colt: I'm just saying a lot of people do not appreciate where the artist is coming from. It's just a game to them. I'm hoping that's not you though. Would you please just comprehensively read what I'm typing instead of narrowing in on the fact that what we said has some overlap? Please.

Fantasy is just a bad word to use, idk what else to even say at this point.

I'm not though. But whatever dude. You just wanna look good in an argument instead of actually hearing people sometimes.

I honestly agree with Pots that I could say I like pepperoni pizza and you would find a way to take issue with it 😂 in a way I respect it but if you actually read back through the thread you’ll see you’re worked up over nothing. I literally just said most people don’t relate to rap directly yet they still appreciate it. That is my entire point
